HAPPY BELATED 14TH BIRTHDAY, AIYIN!:D

Saturday, October 25, 2008 @ 4:22 PM

HEY GUYS!
From today's sectionals, I trust most of you know there's alot to improve on for star of dreams.
-
At home, when you're free, pay more attention from bar 141 onwards, especially to the rhythm part. Then count properly before coming in. Hmm, you can try listening to the version of the song on this blog, and practice the fingerings as you listen to it. Then you'll have a rough idea of what it sounds like, so time spent on this part during sectionals can be minimised, and used on improving other areas eg, dynamics, expression, feel etc.
-
Okay, if you're bored at the moment, here's a picture of Alvin for you to ogle at:

Hello people,
I'm here to update on how we can improve, individually and as a section.
Please read on.
-
Firstly, I need everyone to be more pro-active.
Juniors, if you don't know the notes or fingurings, open your mouth and ASK the senior sitting next to you, don't be scared, they don't bite.
Seniors, if you notice the juniors playing wrong notes, TELL them and correct their mistakes. Don't just sit there and continue playing.
And if seniors are not sure either, you can approach either Bean or myself.
-
Next point, attendance.
For every practice, I want to see EVERYONE present for all practices. You'll only be excused if you have a valid reason, remember. Don't skip practices just because you 'feel like skipping' or 'have tuition, appointments etc...' These can be changed to other days of the week. Monday, Wednesday, Saturday are reserved for band practice.
And remember, poor attendance without valid reason affects your CONDUCT also.
-
Everyone should bring home your instruments to practice as much as possible. Next month, we'll be getting the set piece, and we only have 6 months left to syf. Don't only start to practice during band. I need everyone to do your own part at home. Since the exams are over, I want you guys to figure out unfamiliar notes and rhythm at home, and try it out. If still not sure, ASK.
Then when Ms Chong comes, she'll be able to cover more parts for pieces, instead of going through note by note with sections.
For intonation, juniors still sound raw. The more you practice, the better your tone will be, so practice.
And when we play high notes, it tends to be shrill. So don't blast. Try to control your tone by tightening your embouchure.
-
I also want everyone to have a 'I won't give up I can play' attitude. Be more optimistic and enthusiastic, tell yourself you can play, no matter how difficult the passages are. If you have a good attitude, you'll definitely improve.
-
Ms Chong has high expectations, and she cares. She believes we can learn Dikir Puteri in just 3 practices. Our performance reflects alot on Ms Chong. She can choose not to teach FSMB, but she chose to stay on and be a part of our family.
Let's not disappoint her please.
-
I need the combined effort of everone in the section. Remember, we are one big family, and a part of the band. Together we can bring FSMB to greater heights. It all depends on each and everyone of you.
-
Please reflect on this.
